♛ BASICS ♛
NAME USED ☆ Tommy / Tom
BIRTH NAME ☆ Thomas Shelby
SERIES ☆ Peaky Blinders
CANON POINT ☆ 4x02 - after Esme kicks Arthur and Tommy out of the morgue

♛ FIRST IMPRESSIONS ♛
VISUAL ☆ Tommy looks to be his age (mid-30s), standing at 5'9" with dark hair and ice blue eyes. His hairstyle is best described as a textured crop with his hair kept cropped shorter along the sides and back of his head and the longer part on top pushed to the side somewhat. As far as distinguishing features go, Tommy has a few scars on his torso. Tommy also has tattoos on his chest and arms.
FASHION ☆ Tommy prefers to be well-dressed in finely tailored three-piece suits. Outside of the obvious expense of his suits, Tommy doesn't dress in a way that would likely stand out, preferring darker colors (i.e. black & navy) over others. Beneath his suits, Tommy always has a shoulder holster for his revolver. Tommy can also occasionally be found wearing a flat cap with razors sewn into the brim. Once in a while, Tommy wears round, wire-rimmed glasses after a head injury screwed up his vision.
DEMEANOR ☆ He tends to be quieter than most. While he's not completely unapproachable, Tommy seems to observe the world more than be in it. This detachment from the world causes Tommy to be more stoic than others, rarely (if ever) smiling and requiring quite the catalyst to unleash his temper. It tends to attract people and push them away in equal measure, but regardless, Tommy has a commanding and noticeable presence. Tommy still does have the capacity to be cold, however. When he feels the situation calls for it, Tommy can become quite ruthless and calculating.
AURAL ☆ In most situations, Tommy is soft-spoken, his voice a little rough from smoking unfiltered cigarettes since God knows how long. Tommy does have an accent that the show tries to pass off as a Birmingham accent?? Pretend that it is.
OLFACTORY ☆ Smoke (both cigarette and woodsmoke), sandalwood, musk, saffron, suede, and whisky.
MENTAL ☆ Tommy most definitely has underlying PTSD from his experiences in the war, but his symptom presentation is often mild as he's able to more successfully repress anything associated with it when he's keeping himself busy. So, it's likely that in Tommy's mentalscape, anything pertaining to that is locked away fairly deep. Another thing that Tommy tends to compartmentalize and doesn't allow the surface is pre-war memories. The rest of Tommy's mind is probably better described as a web with so many interconnected things that he's constantly moving from one thing to the next.
MEDICAL ☆ Tommy's physical health is actually not that bad considering how many times he gets shot at or gets his shit kicked in. His only major injury has been a head injury that caused permanent damage to his vision, requiring him to use glasses for reading (or else he gets headaches). He is a heavy chainsmoker of filter-less cigarettes though, so who knows what his lungs look like at this point. Tommy used to use opium regularly, but has long-since ceased its use.
MAGICAL ☆ Tommy is a normal human being with no supernatural abilities of any kind, including magic.
ABILITIES ☆ Tommy is skilled with a number of firearms. He has no formal training in hand-to-hand combat, but he's able to hold his own and make use of his environment when need be. Tommy is also a highly talented businessman and runs a crime family, so he has plenty of talent in skills related to that. Lastly, Tommy is fluent in both English and Romani.

♛ IC PERMISSIONS ♛
PHYSICAL AFFECTION ☆ It depends on the person and his relationship to that person as to whether or not Tommy will invite any sort of physical affection, but at the absolute worst, Tommy will only shrug them off.
ROMANCE ☆ Tommy, himself, is not very open to romantic relationships after the loss of his wife, Grace, but don't feel completely discouraged. Tommy is definitely open to physical relationships (he's not celibate) and sometimes he can fuck up and still have a feeling. Just understand that if you're interested in pursuing a more emotionally intimate relationship with Tommy, it will take a long time for those walls to come down.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE ☆ If you're planning on significant injuries, let me know beforehand. But honestly, Tommy's life is rife with physical violence, so it'd be just another day ending in y for him.
PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE ☆ While I'm absolutely open to this and, as I mentioned above, Tommy has no defenses against it, I would like it if you could give me a heads up and talk to me about what you're planning beforehand.

TELEPATHY & MENTAL CONTACT ☆ Anything is fine with me! Tommy has no defenses against it and might not be totally on-board with it at first, but generally speaking, he'd probably learn to roll with it.
DEBATE ☆ Tommy tends not to argue too much with others, preferring to simply speak his mind and leave it at that. (He's used to people leaving it at that.) But you're absolutely free to continue debating about it with him.
DEATH ☆ No thanks!
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS ☆ Tommy gets especially offended about anything directed towards his family long before he gets upset over something directed towards him. He avoids most conversations about WWI (and pre-WWI for that matter) as much as possible, but he rarely gets all that visibly worked up about it. And, quite frankly, as head of the family, Tommy doesn't take very well to when his authority is questioned or undermined.
ANYTHING ELSE? ☆ If you don't see an answer here, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm pretty flexible and open to most ideas!
♛ OOC PERMISSIONS & INFO ♛
PLAYER ☆ Crystal
PREFERRED PRONOUNS ☆ She/Her, They/Them
TIMEZONE ☆ EST
CONTACT ☆ [plurk.com profile] maledictions or PM! You can send me pplurks whenever, but please contact me (or have it obvious in your plurk profile who you are) prior to adding me!
AVAILABILITY ☆ Weekends are best.
BACKTAGGING ☆ Perfectly fine! But if I feel a thread is going on too long, I will contact you about it, but that's rarely the case. THREADJACKING ☆ If there's still interaction with my character, that's fine. However, if it's going to be more between your characters for a prolonged period of time and/or there's going to be a private interaction, I would appreciate it if you moved it elsewhere.
ACTION VS. PROSE ☆ Realistically, there's no difference, but action tends to be my preference anyway.

FOURTH WALLING & CANON PUNCTURE ☆ Please do not canon puncture as it pertains directly to the canon, but don't feel like you need to hide historical events that take place in the years following Tommy's current canon point. Similarly, while I ask that you don't tell Tommy he's fictional or that he looks like Cillian Murphy, feel free to acknowledge the Peaky Blinders were not historically what they are in the show. If you're not sure whether or not what you have in mind is okay, just let me know and I'd be happy to help!
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS ☆ Anything involving rape/sexual assault/abuse, I require a prior conversation before they are introduced. In general, as long as you appropriately warn for anything that could be triggering, I'm fine with it. Please see the below important note for terminology surrounding Tommy's ethnic identity.
♛ IMPORTANT NOTE ♛
While it's true that some Romani and Irish Travellers may refer to themselves as G*psies, its use by individuals outside the group is more often than not harmful because of the implications/associations with the word. (Here is a shorter and (cw: sexual assault mention) longer read on why the word is problematic.) Therefore, although it's canon for the Shelby family to refer to themselves as G*psies, I have no intention of using that word and would ask that you similarly refrain from using it to both in character and out. Thanks!
